The Directive 94/62/ec on packaging & packaging waste has now been transposed to UK law through the Packaging Waste Regulations 1997.In essence, in order to allow to meet its directive targets the regulations impose specific recovery & recycling obligations on all UK businesses who have a turnover exceeding £2 million and who handle more than 50 tonnes of packaging waste per annum and are producers as defined in the regulations. The recovery & recycling targets are set between 50-65% of packaging by weight.
